In the recently finished Test series against New Zealand, Virat Kohli scored 0, 70, 1, 17, 4, 1.
Prior to the IPL 2025 auction, Royal Challengers Bengaluru kept three players, including Virat Kohli. At Rs 21 crore, he became the most expensive Indian player to be retained. Kohli has not been having a good time on the international scene. In the just-finished Test series against New Zealand, Virat Kohli scored 0, 70, 1, 17, 4, 1. And his ICC Test ranking clearly reflects that performance. Kohli has fallen eight spots to 22nd place as a result of his 4 and 1 scores in the Mumbai Test, which India lost. The India star has not been this low in more than a decade. Following a slender tour of England, he was ranked 24th in August 2014.
During this time, Virat Kohli’s social media post about starting a “new chapter” with a “new team” sent people into a frenzy. The post, however, was about a team called “Sporting Beyond” that will collaborate with the former captain of India on his business ventures.

The lack of domestic cricket taunts continues to plague the senior Indian cricket team, and experts are unwilling to downplay the severity of their criticism after a 0-3 thrashing by New Zealand. Many people still believe that players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would have benefitted if they had chosen to participate in the Duleep Trophy. Some even argue that the two ought to participate in the current Ranji Trophy. Former Indian cricket player Mohammad Kaif shares similar opinions, arguing that instead of squandering their pricey vehicles, planes, and VIP treatment, the top players should return to domestic cricket.
“Of course. They must bat hours there and develop their form. In a social media video, Kaif stated, “It will be very beneficial to them and a morale boost if they end up scoring a hundred.”
Additionally, Kaif posted a reminder about Rishabh Pant from the 2020 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, in which the wicketkeeper batsman joined the team after hitting a century in a practice match and helped India create history in Australia.
“This is where I bring up Rishabh Pant. The ODI and T20I teams for that tour did not include him, even though he made the game-winning run in Gabba. He only went to the Test series, where Wriddhiman Saha outperformed him. But we lost because Pant was a part of India’s “36 all-out” team. But remember, he said, “Pant was a totally different player at the time because he had allegedly scored a century in a Pink Ball practice match during that tour before being added to the starting lineup.”
