Windows Apps Now Supported by Apple Intelligence Writing Tools on Parallels Desktop

Apple Intelligence on Windows apps are available to users in the US who have a Windows virtual machine running on a Mac computer with an Apple Silicon chip.

Apple Intelligence began rolling out to users in the US earlier this week, as part of the company’s iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1 software update. Apple Writing Tools is the most prominent AI feature available on compatible Mac and iPhone computers. It lets users rewrite text entirely, alter its tone and length, or proofread or summarise it on their device. Although the feature is compatible with the majority of macOS apps, users can also access it on Windows apps that are running in a macOS virtual machine.

New Support for Apple Intelligence Writing Tools in Windows Apps

Users with a Mac computer running on macOS Sequoia can use the new Apple Writing Tools feature that is part of the first Apple Intelligence feature rollout while accessing Windows applications running inside a virtual machine, according to a support document shared by virtualisation software maker Parallels.

After updating to macOS 15.1, users who have a Parallels Desktop virtual machine on their Mac computer can begin using the new Apple Writing Tools feature while running Windows applications like Microsoft Word or PowerPoint. It is important to remember that before an update can enable support for Windows applications, the computer must first have Apple Intelligence activated.

The virtualisation software company states that users must launch their Windows virtual machine, launch Parallels Desktop Control Centre, and then select the following options from the menu bar at the top of the screen: Actions > Parallels Tool Update.

After this procedure is finished, users can choose a text block within an application such as Microsoft Word that is running on their Parallels Desktop virtual machine. Then, they can access the Apple Writing Tools menu by pressing the Shift + Command + W keyboard shortcut.

Users in the United States who own Mac computers with an Apple Silicon chip can access Apple Intelligence. As long as the user’s system language is set to English (US), they can access Apple Intelligence if they are using a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac, or Mac Pro with an M1, M2, M3, or M4 series chip.
