US Taking Steps To Put Google Under Federal Supervision, Report Says

Citing two people with knowledge of the discussions, the report said Thursday that Google has vehemently opposed the idea over months of intensely confidential discussions.

According to the Washington Post, Alphabet’s Google may face yet another regulatory obstacle as the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has taken action to place the company under official federal supervision.

Citing two people with knowledge of the discussions, the report said Thursday that Google has vehemently opposed the idea over months of intensely confidential discussions.

Regulators may have access to a company’s internal records if it is under federal supervision.

Alphabet and the CFPB chose not to comment.

In addition to a court order to allow competition in its mobile app store, Google is already facing government action that could compel the company to sell off portions of its operations.
