US Returns Illegal Indian Immigrants on a Charter Flight Before Elections

The Department of Homeland Security announced on Friday that the charter flight was dispatched to India on October 22.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, the US worked with the Indian government to hire a chartered flight to deport Indian nationals who were unlawfully residing in the country.

The department announced on Friday that the charter flight was dispatched to India on October 22. Kristie A. Canegallo, a senior official carrying out the responsibilities of Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, stated that “Indian nationals without a legal basis to remain in the United States are subject to swift removal, and intending migrants should not fall for the lies of smugglers who proclaim otherwise.”

The statement said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) continues to enforce US immigration laws and deliver tough consequences for those who enter unlawfully and encourages the use of lawful pathways.

Interactions between ports of entry along the U.S. southwest border have dropped by 55% since the Securing the Border Presidential Proclamation and related Interim Final Rule took effect in June 2024.

According to the statement, the DHS operated more than 495 international repatriation flights to more than 145 countries, including India, and removed or returned more than 160,000 people in fiscal year 2024.

According to the report, the department frequently works with governments in the hemisphere and beyond to accept the repatriation of their citizens who lack a valid reason to stay in the United States.

It stated that this was just one of several tools the United States employed to curb irregular migration, encourage the use of safe, legal, and orderly routes, and hold transnational criminal networks responsible for smuggling and exploiting vulnerable individuals.

DHS has removed people from a variety of countries around the world in the past year, including China, India, Mauritania, Senegal, Egypt, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Uzbekistan.
