Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Passenger Dies Mid-Air: “Everything Went Into Chaos”
On Sunday, November 10, a Ryanair flight from Tirana, Albania, to Manchester Airport had to make an emergency landing at London Stansted following the death of a passenger. The flight, which had already crossed Switzerland and France, diverted shortly before 8 pm, according to Metro. Emergency personnel, including paramedics, police, and an air ambulance, greeted the plane as it touched down. The man, whose identity and age have not been made public, was declared dead at the scene despite their best efforts.
As passengers struggled to deal with the unexpected circumstance, the incident caused significant disruption on board. An eyewitness claimed that the man started “having convulsions” before emergency personnel hurried to his aid and carried him to the aisle where CPR was given in a last-ditch effort to save his life.
“When he stopped breathing, chaos broke out. While the defibrillator was being set, a few of us with first aid training jumped in to assist and began CPR. Two aircrew members and three passengers managed to keep doing CPR as instructed by the defibrillator for 25 minutes when we finally landed in an emergency in London,” he told the Manchester Evening News.
“We were all told to exit the aircraft after the paramedics continued for an additional half hour. The ambulance was still there an hour or so later, but we boarded again with a different crew to continue the journey to Manchester without the man and his pals. Sadly, the man did not make it, I was informed when I enquired. “When I heard the sad news, I was devastated,” he continued.
“On Sunday evening, Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, one ambulance, one Hazardous Area Response Team vehicle, and one paramedic car were called to Stansted Airport following reports of a man with a medical emergency on an aircraft,” an East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson stated. Unfortunately, the man had passed away at the scene despite everyone’s best efforts.”
