OxygenOS 15 Unveiled With New AI Features, Redesigned UI and Default Gemini Assistant

The upcoming OxygenOS 15 update will bring new AI features designed specifically for photography.

OnePlus unveiled its OxygenOS 15 update on Thursday. The new operating system (OS) update for eligible OnePlus smartphones will introduce a redesigned user interface, artificial intelligence (AI) features, and faster processing. The update, which is based on Google’s recently released Android 15, also includes new security features like the live threat detection and theft protection capabilities of Google Play Protect. Additionally, OxygenOS 15 will set Gemini AI Assistant as the default virtual assistant on compatible devices.

Enhancements to OxygenOS 15 Performance

According to the company, OxygenOS 15 was created with an emphasis on AI capabilities, improved design, and quick performance. OnePlus claims to have improved animation interactions using proprietary parallel processing technology in order to speed up processing times.

OnePlus claims that the latest update includes extensive “interruption animations” that facilitate quicker app switching. The business claims that even during times of high usage, lag times are removed and a consistent experience is preserved.

The company is also increasing the storage space and eliminating unnecessary features to speed up the operating system. According to OnePlus, OxygenOS 15 will require 20% less storage space on the OnePlus 12 than OxygenOS 14.

OxygenOS 15 Will Launch New AI Functionalities

With the OS update, OnePlus has also added a number of new AI features. AI Detail Boost, a feature that turns low-resolution or cropped images into 4K resolution photos, was added by the company to the camera. This feature is integrated into the gallery app and automatically identifies pixelated images.

In a similar vein, the company’s AI Unblur feature sharpens and enhances blurry photos automatically. AI Reflection Eraser will also assist users in eliminating reflections from photos taken through glass.

Although the company’s internal AI models power these features, OnePlus is also introducing a number of Gemini-powered features. Circle to Search is the first of these, and smartphones running the OxygenOS 15 update will now be able to use it.

Long pressing the Home Button or navigation bar will activate the visual lookup feature. Another is Intelligent Search, which allows users to type a natural language query to conduct on-device searches. The AI will respond with pertinent information when users enquire about a file, setting, or note.

Apart from that, Gemini will also power a new Pass Scan feature, which is integrated within the camera app. Boarding passes can be swiftly scanned with it. With OxygenOS 15, AI Notes is also making its debut. The application can format, enlarge (or condense) content written in the Notes app, much like the AI Notes found in Samsung Galaxy devices. Voice notes can also be automatically converted to text using AI Notes.

Additionally, AI Reply is now accessible from the smart sidebar and has been added to the AI Toolbox. It can understand the conversations in messaging apps and can automatically generate contextually relevant replies that users can copy and paste into the app.

The new OS update will make Google’s Gemini AI assistant the default virtual assistant. Additionally, users have access to the newly launched Gemini Live feature, which allows them to have a two-way voice conversation with the Gemini chatbot in real time.

OnePlus Reveals the New OxygenOS 15 Interface

In terms of design improvements, OxygenOS 15 offers additional shelf card options, new boot animation, icons, and fingerprint unlock style options. To provide a fresh visual experience, it also incorporates Gaussian Blur and Shimmering Effects in a variety of system scenarios. The control centre, notification bar, and settings have all received some minor updates.

When interacting with the OS, new design enhancements are also visible. The phone unlocking animation has been enhanced by a new OnePlus OneTake feature. A new “Share with iPhone” feature has also been added to enhance file sharing between OnePlus and iPhone devices.

Features for Safety in OxygenOS 15

The Google Play Protect live threat detection feature in Android 15 will help OxygenOS 15 identify possible malware and fraudulent apps by analysing app behaviour. In a similar vein, additional theft prevention features have been included to safeguard user information in the event that a device is taken.

The feature automatically locks the device to protect the data from the thief when it detects movements linked to theft, like someone stealing a smartphone and fleeing. Furthermore, a feature that allows users to remotely lock their device using just their phone number has been added. Additionally, an offline lock has been added, which will activate on its own if the phone is not connected to the Internet for an extended amount of time.

Last but not least, OxygenOS 15 incorporates Android 15’s biometric verification system for sensitive operations like turning off FindMyDevice or theft-protection features, which the company claims offers an additional degree of user protection.

Beginning on October 30, the OnePlus 12 5G will be the first device to receive OxygenOS 15. Based on their support window, the following phones are currently anticipated to receive the update, though the company has not yet released an official list of eligible devices.

OxygenOS 15 will be available to owners of the OnePlus Open, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus 11, OnePlus 11R, OnePlus 10 Pro, OnePlus 10R, and OnePlus 10T.
