OpenAI Reportedly Planning to Release The Successor to GPT-4 Before the End of This Year

According to reports, Orion is the name of OpenAI’s upcoming generation of large language models.

The next generation of OpenAI’s artificial intelligence (AI) model is reportedly scheduled for release before the year is out. According to a report, the company’s next frontier model will be far more potent and capable than the GPT-4 AI model. Orion is the internal name for the large language model. According to reports, the AI model will not be made publicly available until December, even though the company is reportedly planning for a December release. Rather, it might initially be available to the businesses that OpenAI closely collaborates with.

The Next Generation AI Model from OpenAI

The Verge reported that the AI firm is looking at a timeline of December 2024 for the launch of the next generation of its frontier large language model. The publication stated that the model is internally being referred to as Orion, citing individuals with knowledge of the situation. Interestingly, it was the GPT-4o AI model that was initially identified as Strawberry.

Although the GPT-4 Turbo and GPT-4o AI models were released by OpenAI subsequent to the release of GPT-4, they were not novel AI models. Based on the GPT-4 architecture, they were merely modified and improved versions of the LLM. It is anticipated that the upcoming version of its AI model, which may be dubbed GPT-5, will have new features and architecture.

According to the report, in contrast to the company’s prior AI model releases, the codenamed Orion AI model will not be made publicly available. According to reports, the AI model will instead be distributed to businesses with which OpenAI has a close partnership. This is allegedly because the AI company wants to allow businesses to develop their own features and products before the model is made publicly available.

Given that it is a significant investor in the business, Microsoft might be one of them. It is interesting to note that by November, the Orion model might be hosted on Azure servers, according to the report. The AI model’s official name has not been confirmed yet, though.

The Orion AI model may be up to 100 times more potent than GPT-4, according to the report. Additionally, enhanced AI agentic capabilities are anticipated. According to the report, OpenAI eventually hopes to combine its AI models to produce artificial general intelligence (AGI).
