Mohun Bagan Super Giants defeated hosts Hyderabad FC 2-0 in the ISL with dazzling fireworks during the festive week.
In the Indian Super League in Hyderabad on Wednesday, Mohun Bagan Super Giants defeated the hosts, Hyderabad FC, 2-0, thanks to dazzling fireworks during the festive week. With 13 points from six games, the Mariners moved up to second place in the standings, now just three points behind Bengaluru FC (16), who are currently in first place. With four points from their first six games, Hyderabad FC, who were aiming for a second straight victory, are currently ranked eleventh in the standings. The Jose Molina-led team finished this victory with the highest level of professionalism, scoring one goal in each half and playing assiduous defence in accordance with their strategy to fend off Hyderabad FC’s quick-paced attack.
In order to win the three points, the visitors took advantage of the opportunities they created, played to their strengths, and displayed excellent finishing.
Manvir Singh’s goal in the 37th minute gave the Kolkata-based team their first lead in the match after a stout start that saw defender Subhasish Bose sent off in the 28th minute.
In the middle of the park, the two teams were fighting for possession when midfield star Anirudh Thapa decided to let his creative side loose by using his deft through pass to breach the Hyderabad FC defence.
The delivery was hurled at Manvir, who was already sprinting and battling an amazing conundrum. Prior to this goal, he had scored four goals against Hyderabad FC, the most he had ever done against any league opponent.
To start the game, the attacker picked the ball with his feet, displayed excellent control to round off goalkeeper Lalbiakhlua Jongte, and slotted it home from the centre of the box. This ended the attacker’s seven-game goalless streak against them as well.
Since the Mohun Bagan Super Giants were a formidable opponent in the attacking half, they were sure to get plenty of chances.
Greg Stewart, an attacking midfielder, came up with a free-kick in the 55th minute. He curled the ball inside the box with the ideal pace, and Bose met it and hammered it home to double their lead in the game.
After that, the Mariners turned to bolstering their lead and playing a fairly safe game to finish the remaining forty minutes or so and return home with yet another crucial victory.
