India Star To Miss New Zealand Series Due To 12th Board Exam

The uncapped players who recently played for India A in Australia have been given a chance.

In addition to selecting four uncapped players for the series beginning on October 24, the selectors decided to keep Harmanpreet Kaur as captain of India for the three women’s ODI matches against New Zealand on Thursday. Harmanpreet’s future as captain was questioned following another ICC event failure, just days after India’s early elimination from the T20 World Cup. But for the time being, the selectors have chosen to continue with her. Preparations for the ODI World Cup, which India will host the following year, will also begin with the matches against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

The BCCI said in a statement that 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh was unavailable for the series because it fell during her 12th standard board exams.

All-rounder Pooja Vastrakar has been rested, and Asha Sobhana was not taken into consideration because of an injury.

Tejal Hasabnis, Sayali Satgare, and Priya Mishra are among the uncapped players who were recently included in the India A team in Australia and have been given a chance.

Another member of the team without a cap is pacer Saima Thakor, who has experience playing in the WPL.

The vice captain is Smriti Mandhana, who performed poorly during the T20 World Cup. The team also includes batter Uma Chetry, who has four T20 Internationals under her belt and may make her ODI debut during the series.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedbad will host all three matches.

Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, D Hemalatha, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Uma Chetry (wk), Sayali Satgare, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Tejal Hasabnis, Saima Thakor, Priya Mishra, Radha Yadav, and Shreyanka Patil are the Indian team for the three ODI series against New Zealand.
