India crushed Bangladesh at the venue, and the ICC’s massive “unsatisfactory” verdict is reflected in the NZ Series venue ratings.

The high-scoring tracks used for Bangladesh’s Twenty20 Internationals were rated “very good” in Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad.

India’s Test match against Bangladesh will be played at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, which has been rated as “very good” by the ICC. The other four home centres used during the season have been rated as “satisfactory.” The ICC match referee gave all three of the Test venues used against New Zealand—Chinnaswamy in Bangalore, Gahunje in the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai—just about “satisfactory” ratings. The outfield at Kanpur’s Green Park stadium, however, has been condemned by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe as “unsatisfactory.”

Only two full days of play against Bangladesh were possible due to the government-owned stadium’s inadequate drainage system, and even though the pitch was deemed “satisfactory,” the former Kiwi international was still not impressed with the outfield.

The Bangladesh T20Is’ high-scoring tracks in Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad were judged “very good” because they met the shortest format’s specifications.

But the fact that former Australia opener David Boon could not give any of the Test match tracks used against New Zealand a rating higher than “satisfactory” would not amuse the Indian team management, the BCCI, or local curators.

India was all out for 46 against New Zealand due to the Chinnaswamy pitch’s excessive moisture content, and the Pune and Mumbai tracks were “rank turners” that did not strictly adhere to the standards for a “good test” match wicket.

However, due to some strong individual batting performances by players on both sides, the two tracks managed to escape with satisfactory ratings.

India defeated Bangladesh in the Test and Twenty20 International series. But India lost the Test series against New Zealand, which lasted three matches. The Test series loss to New Zealand has seriously damaged India’s chances of reaching the World Test Championship final. India now needs to defeat Australia 4-0 in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in order to go to the championship match on its own.
