Harbhajan Singh’s Magnificent Remark Regarding the Mumbai Indians’ IPL Retention: “It is Still Uncertain Whether Rohit Sharma…”

Ahead of the India Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction later this year, Harbhajan Singh has expressed scepticism about the Mumbai Indians’ decision to keep Rohit Sharma.

Ahead of the India Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction later this year, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed scepticism about Rohit Sharma’s retention by the Mumbai Indians. But after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, the spinner, who has won three IPL championships for Mumbai while Rohit is captain, believes the opening batsman will be kept. In addition to Rohit, the veteran cricketer thinks the team will keep its core group intact prior to the huge auction by keeping captain Hardik Pandya, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, batter Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma.

“Mumbai Indians is a team that hasn’t played well in the last two to three years. As far as I am aware, they will undoubtedly consider assembling a team for the future because they have been a champion team and a very good team. However, that does not mean they will not bring in more seasoned players this season. Hardik Pandya was named captain last year, and I believe he will be kept on. Regarding the possible IPL retentions for the Mumbai Indians, Harbhajan told Star Sports that Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav would be kept, but it is still unclear if Rohit Sharma would be kept.

In order for Mumbai to finish their six retentions before the October 31 deadline, the 44-year-old selected Nehal Wadhera as their last selection in the uncapped category.

“I believe he should be kept, and he will be, since he recently won the World Cup as captain. That brings the total number of players to four. Tilak Varma will be kept if there is a fifth player. One of the players who will help the Mumbai Indians win games in the future is Tilak Varma. I do not believe they would want to keep anyone else when it comes to bowling, so Nehal Wadhera might be a good choice. He should be selected because he is an uncapped player,” he continued.

In the IPL 2024, the five-time champion Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom of the table under Pandya’s captaincy. They won just four games out of 14 league stage fixtures and stayed at the bottom half of the table throughout the season.
