Grammy 2025: The Beatles’ Last Song, Restored Using AI, Bags Two Nominations

The Beatles are being nominated for Grammys for the first time since the late 1990s with the Now And Then nominations.

Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), The Beatles have received two Grammy nominations nearly 50 years after their breakup. Now And Then, the group’s final song, which was revived the previous year, is a nominee for Record of the Year. It is up against songs like Beyonce’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” Charli XCX’s “360,” Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Father,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” and Taylor Swift and Post Malone’s “Fortnight.”

The Black Keys’ “Beautiful People (Stay High),” Green Day’s “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” IDLES’ “Gift Horse,” Pearl Jam’s “Dark Matter,” and St. Vincent’s “Broken Man” are among the songs that have also earned a nomination for Best Rock Performance.

Singer Paul McCartney has referred to Now and Then as “the last Beatles song,” CNN reported.

John Lennon, who passed away in 1980, wrote the song “Now And Then,” which was recorded with his original vocals in 1970. Artificial intelligence was used to enhance and preserve these vocals. In addition to guitar recordings by George Harrison from the 1990s, the song features new instrumentation by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the two remaining members of The Beatles. George passed away in 2001.

The Beatles are being nominated for Grammys for the first time since the late 1990s with the Now and Then nominations. In 1997, the group took home three Grammys: Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for Free as a Bird, Best Music Video (Short Form), and Best Music Video (Long Form) for The Beatles Anthology.

The Beatles won the 1965 Best New Artist award in addition to these three. Revolver won Album of the Year in 1967, and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band won Best Contemporary Album in 1968. To date, the band has won seven Grammy awards.

On Sunday, February 2, 2025, the 67th Grammy Awards will be held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. On Friday, the nominations were made public. To view the complete list of nominees, click here.
