AI replies for the Call Screen feature on Pixel phones will suggest smart replies based on the caller’s response, according to a report.
According to a report, the Call Screen feature on Google Pixel phones may soon be enhanced with new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. According to reports, the tech giant based in Mountain View is developing a feature called “AI Replies” that will produce intelligent responses based on the caller’s words rather than the pre-programmed responses found in the current Call Screen version. Since the feature is still in development, it will not be available in the most recent version of the Phone app on Pixel devices, but it might eventually be added to the company’s devices.
AI Responses Will Apparently Appear on the Google Pixel’s Call Screen
With the Call Screen feature in the Phone app, users of Pixel smartphones can set up Google Assistant to answer incoming calls and ask why the call was placed. It is available in a few places (not India) and works with all Pixel smartphones.
Google introduced contextual replies to Call Screen last year, enabling users to reply to the caller if they chose not to answer. For instance, if the Call Screen function informed the user that they were receiving a call regarding scheduling a visit to the doctor’s office, the on-device assistant could inform the caller that they had the option to accept or decline the appointment.
While useful in certain scenarios, the feature is quite limited in the range of responses a user could send, and it does not work if the caller’s response is too complex. Now, an Android Authority APK teardown reveals that the company is working on making contextual replies better with “AI Replies.”.
According to the article, the business may employ AI to interpret the caller’s response and present the user with more pertinent responses. “Call Assist suggests new AI-powered smart replies based on the caller’s call screen responses” is how the image depicts AI replies.
9 to 5 Google also dug into a Pixel smartphone’s Phone app to find more evidence of the feature. According to code strings discovered by the publication, the AI-generated responses were being referred to as “dobby” internally. According to reports, another string of code indicated that “dobby LLM” would power the feature.
Gemini Nano, believed to be the codename for this device, already powers some of the AI features in the Google Pixel 9 series. The company may also use a different large language model to power the feature. Google has not yet revealed any information about when AI responses in Call Screen might be available.
