A cricket match at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles might take place on the east coast.

Earlier this year, New York, on the East Coast, co-hosted the T20 World Cup with the West Indies, hosting a number of preliminary-round matches.

According to Casey Wasserman, chair of the host committee, cricket competitions at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles could be held on the East Coast of the United States to serve the large Indian audience and capitalise on the sport’s enormous domestic market in the host nation. After 128 years, cricket will return to the Olympic programme in the T20 format. Although the locations have not yet been finalised, it is probable that the men’s and women’s competitions will be held on the East Coast due to the more favourable time zone for Indian viewers compared to the West Coast.

Earlier this year, New York, on the East Coast, co-hosted the T20 World Cup with the West Indies, hosting a number of preliminary-round matches.

Los Angeles is twelve and a half hours behind, which could be harmful from the perspective of viewership, while the East Coast is nine and a half hours behind India, allowing the country’s viewers to watch the action live.

According to the “website”sportico.com, Wasserman stated at a Business of Sports Summit in Austin, Texas, that the LA28 organisers would like to maximise cricket viewership in India.

When asked where on the East Coast cricket matches could be held, Wasserman, who led the successful LA28 bid and was elected president of the organising committee, remained vague.

Six sports have been added to the LA28 Olympic roster, including cricket, baseball, softball, flag football, squash, and lacrosse. It had previously participated in the Olympic Games in 1900.

Wasserman stated earlier this year that “more than USD 150 million in savings and new revenue to help maintain a balanced budget (for the Olympics)” could be achieved by utilising existing infrastructure, according to “Sportico.”

Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, and a makeshift stadium constructed on Long Island outside of New York City were the three locations that hosted the T20 World Cup in the US, which India won to end the title drought.

Olympic competitions held in host countries far from the main centre are not unusual. Tahiti hosted surfing competitions, Marseille hosted sailing, Chateauroux hosted shooting and the entire nation hosted football during the Olympics in Paris.
