Mansi Ahlawat Takes Bronze at the World Championships, While Other Indians Fail

Mansi Ahlawat extended India’s medal-winning streak at the World Championships with a bronze.

Although Mansi Ahlawat won a bronze to prolong India’s winning streak at the World Championships, the Greek-Roman and men’s freestyle wrestlers will not bring home any medals. Mansi, who trains at Sir Chhotu Ram Akhada under coach Mandeep, won the bronze medal in the women’s 59 kg division by defeating Canada’s Laurence Beauregard 5-0. After winning three straight fights on Wednesday, she lost to Sukhee Tserenchimed of Mongolia 1-4 in her semifinal.

Manisha Bhanwala (65 kg) lost her bronze play-off to Miwa Morikawa of Japan 2–8, but she also came very close to placing on the podium.

Manisha had defeated Mongolia’s Enkhjin Tuvshinjargal 7-2 in her repechage round, putting her back in the running.

Bipasha (72 kg) and Kirti (55 kg) were unable to advance to the medal round.

Sandeep Mann (92 kg) advanced to the rematch round in the men’s freestyle but lost to Btyrbek Tsakuklov of Slovakia due to technical superiority.

Manish Goswami (70 kg), Parvinder Singh (79 kg), and Udit (61 kg) were unable to advance to the medal round.

Sanjeev (55 kg), Chetan (63 kg), Ankit Gulia (72 kg), and Rohit Dahiya (82 kg) all lost early in the competition, causing the Greco Roman wrestlers from India to struggle as usual.
