Following the team’s dismal start to the season, Manchester United announced on Monday that they had fired manager Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag following the club’s lacklustre start to the season, the fallen Premier League giants announced Monday. United dropped to a lowly 14th in the table after suffering their fourth defeat in nine league games at West Ham on Sunday and have won only one of their last eight games in all competitions. “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager,” said a club statement. After being hired in April 2022, Erik guided the team to two domestic championships: the FA Cup in 2024 and the Carabao Cup in 2023.
“We wish Erik the best of luck in the future and appreciate everything he has done while he has been with us.
“Until a permanent head coach is found, Ruud van Nistelrooy will lead the team as interim head coach with assistance from the current coaching staff.”
The Dutch manager Ten Hag had already overseen United’s worst start to an English top-flight season since the 1989-1990 campaign prior to the defeat to West Ham.
Since United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe kept the 54-year-old Ten Hag at Old Trafford after the team’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City at Wembley in May, his job has been under constant scrutiny in recent weeks.
