Suriya said, “I realised I had to pull my socks”
Suriya and Jyotika, the power couple from the South industry, never fail to set goals. The Kanguva actor recently revealed that once his wife Jyotika’s salary was three times more than his own. Recalling the days when Jyotika established herself as a superstar, Suriya told Mashable, “She skyrocketed to success and it took five years to stabilise. It took me a while to establish my own market and declare myself a hero. I was paid three times as much as she was in Kaakha Kaakha (2003). I also recognised that period of my life. She was prepared to join me; her parents had concurred, and I became aware of the difference between my and her incomes. I came to the realisation that I needed to be on par with her, or at the very least, able to defend them. It all happened in the end.
“I knew Tamil, I was supposed to be an actor’s son, but I was fumbling, forgetting my lines, and I did not know how to act,” Suriya said, praising his wife’s dedication to her career. I think that was my third or fourth movie. She would be more familiar with the lines than I was, and I greatly respected her work ethic. She was very sincere and would memorise them. Suriya revealed information from the 1999 romantic comedy Poovellam Kettuppar, starring Vasanth.
In recent years, Suriya, who has starred in films like Nandha, Kaakha Kaakha, Ghajini, and Singam, has starred in the highly regarded Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim. Additionally, he made a brief appearance in Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram. Additionally, he will make a brief appearance in the Hindi adaptation of Soorarai Pottru, which stars Akshay Kumar. He will play the lead in Kanguva as well.
In addition to many other films, Jyotika is well-known for her roles in Ponmagal Vandhal, Seetha Kalyanam, 36 Vayadhinile, Mozhi, Kaakha Kaakha, Sillunu Oru Kadhal, and Pachchakili Muthucharamnd. Together with her spouse Suriya, she operates the production company 2D Entertainment. Jyothika will next be seen with Shabana Azmi and Shalini Pandey in the Netflix series Dabba Cartel.
